All our dog handlers are carefully vetted and fully trained to British Standards BS7858 and BS7499. In addition, they have to undergo further intensive dog handler training in order to be recognised by the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers and NASDU. Ongoing dog handler training is also vital, for both handler and dog, in order to keep up to date with ever-evolving standards and legislation.

The company is recognised as a local specialist supplier for security dog services and operates a dog section which is fully compliant with the requirements of BS 8517-1:2009 Security dogs - Code of practice for the use of general purpose security dogs (referenced at ACS audit) and the Guard Dogs Act 1975.

Handlers in the company's dog section have cumulative experience in excess of 40+ years and have been trusted to provide services in demanding and complex public sector engagements, often having to deal with anti-social behaviour and members of the public in sensitive situations.

JD Security dog handlers are recruited through a rigorous and comprehensive procedure, but each dog handler still undergoes a full assessment before they are permitted to carry out any operational tasks. All dog handlers undergo regular reassessments so that standards are maintained at an exceptionally high level and so that the company can monitor the dog handlers progress.

The dogs are also carefully matched to a suitable dog handler, this in itself being an important process as the dog handler and dog must be able to work together as a team.

Even though the dogs are sociable and friendly, they are still working animals and, when instructed, will protect their handler with their lives. normally the sight of a trained protection dog in an aggressive stance is enough to deter any criminals!
